How to Get the PMP Certification

To obtain PMP certification, you need to meet specific eligibility criteria and pass the exam. First, ensure you have:

  • 36 months of project leadership experience if you hold a bachelor's degree.
  • 60 months of experience if you do not have a bachelor's degree.
  • 35 contact hours of formal project management education.

Once you're eligible, apply through the Project Management Institute (PMI) website. You'll pay the exam fee and schedule your exam. The PMP exam consists of 180 questions and lasts 230 minutes, with two scheduled breaks.

After passing, you must earn 60 PDUs every three years to maintain your certification. This ensures you stay current in project management practices.
