SAFe Agile certification costs $800 to $1,200 for a 2- to 4-day instructor-led course, exam fee, and certification materials. You'll need to complete accredited training, pass the exam, and maintain your credential through renewal.

What you need to know before enrolling

SAFe certifications come in multiple tracks. The most common are SAFe Agilist (SA), SAFe Practitioner (SP), and SAFe Program Consultant (SPC). Your choice depends on your role and career goals. If you're new to SAFe, start with SAFe Practitioner. If you're leading teams or programs, SAFe Agilist or SPC might be the better fit.

The exam itself is straightforward: 60 questions, 90 minutes, 80% pass score. Most people pass on their first attempt after completing the course.

Steps to obtain SAFe Agile certification

  1. Choose your certification track. Decide between SAFe Agilist, SAFe Practitioner, SAFe Program Consultant, or another SAFe credential based on your role.
  2. Enroll in an accredited training course. Look for a Certified SAFe Instructor (CSI) offering public or private classes. ThinkLouder offers SAFe training alongside other Agile certifications.
  3. Complete the course and pass the exam. Most courses include exam access. You'll take the test immediately after or within a few days of training.
  4. Maintain your certification. SAFe credentials renew every three years. You can renew by retaking the course, passing an online renewal exam, or earning Continuing Education credits.

Why SAFe matters for scaled teams

SAFe Agile certification teaches you how to apply Agile at enterprise scale, not just in single teams. If you work in large organizations with multiple teams, portfolios, or complex dependencies, SAFe gives you a framework that actually works in that context. It's different from CSM or CSPO certifications, which focus on team-level Scrum.

You'll understand Program Increments, Agile Release Trains, and portfolio management. You'll also join a community of practitioners who speak the same language, which matters when you're troubleshooting real problems.
